Two Day Basking Shark & Wildlife Tour
These tours are based on the Isle of Coll and are the shortest of our multi-day tours. It gives you much more time in the basking shark hotspot area with the potential for two full days weather depending. Our shark success rate for 2 & day tours in 2017 was 83%,(better than the 75% of a 1 day tour) if you want to increase those chances our 4 day and longer tours had 100% success rate.
We include swimming with the seals on this tour, either at the lagoon or at another colony if it's nearer the sharks. This is an experience not to be missed!!!
You will spend 1-3 nights on the Coll depending on the itinerary which will give you an insight into island life, a chance to take in the coastal views, look for otters, and sample some of the excellent local food.
These tours run exclusively during July, August and the start of Sept. Please see our itinerary below and click book now to see prices and availability.

We will meet you at the ferry terminal on the Isle of Coll at approx 10am (depending on ferry schedule) where we will transfer you to our meeting room to be given a briefing on the trip. Afterwards you can check into your accomodation and you will have some free time in the afternoon to prepare for the next couple of days and get your bearings. Around 17:00 we will meet to arrange any hire gear you need and make sure all the equipment fits.
We meet around 9am for your first activity day and we usually start by snorkelling with the seals at the fantastic lagoon with excellent visibility, shallow water and abundant marine life. This allows everyone to sort their gear out and have a great time hanging out with the seals.
If the group is experienced in the water and wishes to do so, we can go straight to look for basking sharks however the lagoon is not to be missed as it's such a beautiful and diverse environment. The exact intinerary will vary depending on the weather conditions and experience of the group.
We plan another full day searching for basking sharks and other wildlife. The day will be flexible depending on the sharks' location and the weather.
For example we may dedicate a full day to the sharks or add in the lagoon if we didn't go there on day 1. We don't visit the puffins or Fingal's cave, or scuba dive in the evenings on this tour. If you want to add in these options then choose a three or four day itinerary or even a week long adventure.
Our activities finish in the late afternoon normally and after a packed day of activities most people will settle into the accomodation on return to the island. Then have a meal at the hotel or cafe before maybe sampling a wee dram in the bar, Slàinte!
Usually there are some seals and birdlife in the bay, along with the resident otters! Our guides can adcise you the best place to look for them and there are always some seals to check out too.
The evening light is also great for photography but you will of course be able to enjoy a meal or drink at the hotel or cafe on your last night in Hebridean paradise!
An early check out and we will drop you and your bags at the ferry for travelling to Oban, this varies in time day to day to please check with us when making your travel plans.
Accommodation is based at the 5* bunkhouse on the island where we stay for the duration of the peak season. It's a five minute walk from the boat and very close to the hotel bar & restaurant, cafe and shop. It is self catering, but you can buy supplies at the shop, order packed lunches on the island and eat out for dinner. Otherwise you can self cater for the full trip if you prefer.
This facility has three bedrooms with bunk beds sleeping either 4 or 6 per room. We do try to keep the rooms to same sex but this is not always possible. There is a very large living space with lounge, kitchen and dining area which easily accommodates the whole group, 4 showers and 5 toilets.
For those who wish to have their own room, you can independently book the equally stunning Bed & Breakfast or Hotel. Costs vary depending on the room and view but based on 2 people sharing range from £40-£75 per person per night extra. We do have rooms reserved on the island during our tours so please contact us in the first instance.
