Address to a Basking Shark - Happy Burns Day!

This year, along with with having a wee dram with our haggis, neeps and tatties, we've had a wee brain wave! Here's our attempt of our address to a basking shark! Of course being Burn's, it's written in Scot's so have a go at trying to interpret the meaning - we've included lot of specific basking shark related lines!

Tae a Cearban

Fair fa' your honest, muckle face,

Great chieftain o the sharkie'-race!

Aboon them a' ye tak your place,

Fins , gills, and throat:

Weel are ye worthy o' a grace

As lang's ma boat.

The groaning ocean there ye fill,

Your dorsal like a distant hill,

Your skin wad help to mend a sail

In past times o need,

While thro your mouth the plankton fills

Like amber mead.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind care,

A fish so mighty but so rare,

Auld Scotland wants nae hunting mare

As in time o boon:

And if ye see a breach into the air,

Gie her ‘Muldoon!’
