Our Tours

Come aboard – experience the magic of the Inner Hebrides and its wildlife

Our geographical area of operation is a basking shark ‘hotspot’, widely known as one of the best areas in the whole world for basking sharks. We offer a wide range of basking shark swimming and wildlife excursions to the Inner Hebrides. Our mission is to provide you with great interactions with basking sharks and the abundant wildlife of the area. We create opportunities for you to experience in-water swimming with basking sharks, plus wildlife and adventure excursions. You can choose to swim, snorkel and kayak with sharks, seals and other amazing native marine life, or simply enjoy the rich experiences from the boat.

Our tours are organised from April to October to coincide with the basking sharks' migration to the area, where they feed on the abundant plankton. These tours also include snorkelling with seals and the chance to experience some amazing wild swimming spots.

A wide variety of people seek out our expertise on our shark swims. Whether you’re a novice or have experience with the sea, we’ll make sure you have the very best of the opportunities available. We welcome:

  • Snorkelling beginners
  • Underwater photographers and videographers wanting to capture amazing footage of these gentle giants
  • Recreational divers and snorkellers
  • Non-divers wishing to achieve unforgettable experiences

For those not so keen on a close encounter and getting wet, you are made very welcome as a shark watcher on board the boat.

Choosing a tour

In choosing which trip to take you must weigh up two main factors:

What you want to see

  • If you really want to see puffins, book your trip before the beginning of August, when they leave the area.
  • Shark season is April to October, with the Hebrides peak in July and August, but there are great times to be had in other months too.
  • One day  shark tours run only during peak season.
  • If you really want to see sharks, we recommend you take a three or four day, or week-long trip, which gives you enough time to experience the best of the area.
  • 2017 sighting rates are as follows - One Day tours 75% sucess, 2-3 day tours 83% sucess, 4 days + 100% sucess. The longer tours such as our week trips you can almost guarantee sightings however the lesser anount of time then the chances get less with the shorter the time.

What do you want to do?

  • The majority of activities are based on snorkelling (shark/seal swimmer) or on the boat (shark watcher).
  • Diving is available as an option, but only in the evening. For diving, you should book a three day, four day or week long tour, as the shorter tours don’t give us enough time. The diving around Coll is stunning, with great visibility and abundant sea life.
  • On the longer tours, there are also options to do kayaking and wild swimming.

Please note: Boat trips are vulnerable to bad weather. If we cancel trips for bad weather, there may not be an opportunity to go out again, because most of our trips are booked up well in advance. In this case, we do our best to get you on another tour, or offer a full refund.

Who can take part

For those wanting to snorkel on the tour, we advise of swimming ability of at least 100m required, along with general fitness to enable boarding a boat via a ladder.

Minimum age of 8, with under 16’s accompanied by at least one parent/guardian

No scuba qualification or experience is required. We are able to conduct snorkelling instruction if you require, however you will enjoy the trip better if you already have some skills. We can do this prior to the tour for our certified Experience Snorkelling course.

Due to fluctuating tide levels we may have to use a pier ladder to board the vessel in port.
