All our interactions with basking sharks and seals are by snorkel. If you don't know what snorkelling is then basically it's swimming but using fins to help propel you through the water, a mask to enable you to see underwater and a snorkel which is a tube that you can breath through whilst your face is in the water.
For snorkelling in Scotland we use thick wetsuits, hoods, boots and gloves to keep us warm. It's the same as snorkelling in warmer water, but with a little more neoprene to keep us warm! Some snorkelling experience is recommended before coming on the trips, but the very minimum required is the ability to swim 100m comfortably in open water and be able to board our boats via a ladder. If you haven't snorkelled before then we would recommend a longer tour where we have a little more time to assist you or you could consider one of our BSAC accredited snorkel courses.
We also run overseas tours to Iceland and Norway where you can snorkel. In Iceland we visit amazingly clear glacial lagoons and geothermal sites and in Norway we offer a snorkelling whale safari with orca and humpbacks.Contact us
