Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)
We run a variety of SUP ( Stand Up Paddle boarding) tours based from Oban and around the neighbouring islands. They range from 2hr beginner or local sessions at the neighbouring Oban coastline, islands and sunset tours. Moving to other locations we have to reach by car around the coast.
Then we move to full on boat missions where we travel by boat to access hard to reach destinations in addition to areas that have really cool exploring, landscapes or wildlife.
Our shorter or introductory sessions are suitable for complete beginners where we start of a beach in the shallows. Many of the boat tours can also be suitable for beginners but please enquire about this before hand. Everyone participating should be a competent swimmer.
We can take a maximum SUP group size of 6 and our tours usually having a minimum number of 4 or 6 depending on the location.
SUP-ing can be tricky in windy conditions, so ideally we need light winds but we know the coast and local area well so we can advise what is possible with may areas of shelter.
Oban Based Beginner Session (£50pp - minimum 4 paddlers)
Paddle from a secluded beach near Oban town in shallow, sheltered water after a short introduction and lesson by your guide. No experience necessary, just a sense of humour!
There is always the chance of seal coming up to say hello and some birdlife too. There are a few locations close to Oban that are suitable for this depending on the wind direction, each with their own unique views. However our favorite place is wee Ganavan which is overlooked by Dunollie Castle!
Oban Sunset Session - £50pp (minimum 4 paddlers)
Enjoy one of our wonderful west coast sunsets whilst paddling around our stunning coastline.
We start off at the local beach and paddle round sheltered bays whilst enjoying the sun setting over the neighbouring Isle of Mull.
The route is similar to the beginner session above however we head out in the evening for sunset of course. This session is suitable for all levels and is a spectacular way to chill and end a great day on the Argyll coastline!
Shore Based Mission - £80pp (minimum 4 paddlers)
There are some really great trips close to Oban that involve up to around 30min drive with very different characteristics. Whether that being in tidal races, looking for small sharks, tidal channels, playing with seals, local sea lochs and many other adventures!
- Bridge over the Atlantic, Seals & Islands & Shipwreck ( spectacular trip under the bridge and surrounding area)
- Explore Castle Stalker (the famous castle only accessible from the water)
- Small shark & stringray spotting (yes we have sharks and rays here up to 1.5m, they are harmless but cool to see in the shallows)
- Falls of Lora tidal area (fun times in the tide)
- Loch Creran exploration (good for otters)
- Exploring Easdale Island (great wild swimming)
4Hr Boat Based Tour - £110pp (minimum 4 paddlers)
Our boat based trips are a new concept, but instead of driving about on land we take you to inaccessible places around the coast on our fast cabin RIB. With dry space and seating for all your belongings you get changed on board and have the most conveniance of going direct to the cool places.
Oban Cliffs & Bay - just 10min out of Oban bay feels like the wilderness with lovely bays in cliffs, with clear water. We can either anchor and have a quiet bay session or drop you off then pick you up down the coast.
Gylen Castle, Kerrera - At the south end of Kerrera lies Gylen Castle, sitting atop of the cliffs. We can anchor in the bay here after a paddle round then go ashore to explore the ruins, caves and natural arches. To reach here normally would involve a ferry and over an hours walk - this is a really cool trip.
Creags Islands - around 5miles from our boats base at Dunstaffnag Marina this group of islands are home to seals, otters and occasionally eagles. We need to be carefully plan our route to avoid distrubing any of the wildlife there however there is also a lovely sandy/pebble beach to go ashore. This trip would suit people interested in seeing some of the local wildlife.
Loch Etive (lower) - heading through the falls of lora under the Connel bridge we can explore some of the lower reaches of Loch Etive. Usually this is a sheltered location with some lovely views along the shoreline.
6Hr Boat Based Tour - £120.00pp (minimum 6 paddlers)
A longer trip around our coastline to some more of the more remoter areas between a half and full day.
West Lismore & Morvern - on the west coast of Lismore lies a remote coastline and one of our favorite areas to expore. The special west coast Atlantic Oak woodland is still very prevelant here with numerous cliffs, waterfalls and bays to explore. Spectacular paddling with easy condtions.
Upper Loch Etive - the upper reaches of Loch Etive are a long way from the sea despite being a sea loch. It's a decent jourey to the head of the loch being around 18 nautical miles. The scenery here is spectacular with high mountains such as Ben Cruachan and little habitation. A truly stunning location to visit!
Bridge over Atlantic to Seil - A to B paddle - this is a great trip being dropped off on the boat to paddle through some stunning islands with the chance of seals & otters. Through the Clachan Sound, under the Bridge over Atlantic and then picked up on the boat on the other side of Seil. We'll then head through the Cuan Sound tidal narrows back back through Easdale & Insh Islands, passing Kerrera on way back to Oban.
8Hr Boat Based Tour - £140pp (minimum 6 paddlers)
A longer boat tour further out to the islands, the further out we go, the more spectacular the journey, the landscape and the wildlife.
Tobermory (Isle of Mull) - take a trip up the Sound of Mull to the stunning coastal town of Tobermory. We can paddle round Calve Island on in the sheltered waters around it with a good chances of eagles swooping above our heads. There is awesome waterfall to have a play in too before heading back for a for lunch and explore the town. Chance of seals, seabirds, porpoises and occasionally dolphins on this trip.
Seal & Lagoon Tour (Isle of Coll) - join this scheduled tour to Coll and the spectacular lagoon. Crystal clear water, white shell sand beaches, seals, whales, dolphins, seabirds, eagles. This is an epic trip based on the edge of the Atlantic. See details of that tour here. Usually there will be a mixture of snorkelers and kayakers on this trip too.
Wilderness - Carsaig Arches & Waterfall Bay (Isle of Mull)
This is an unbeliveable coastline. 250m+ cliffs, amazing geology, basalt columns, arches and rock formations. We can go ashore to explore some of this before paddling into a stunning bay to land and a cascading waterfall shower to finish. Eagles, deer, seals & bottlenose dolphins are wildlife we see have chances to see on this trip.
Being based in Oban, nicknamed gateway to the Isles, means we can plan SUP missions to our neighbouring islands visiting some outstanding coastlines. We can organise this as a full day trip getting the ferry there and back, or overnight and multi-day tour style itineraries. Options would be to Kerrera, Lismore, Mull, Coll, Tiree, Colonsay, Islay & Jura.
Using all our experience of wildlife and tours around the argyll coast means we can plan something really special to some truly spectacular locations. Maybe we'll share a secret spot or two with you!
We may occasionally run a trip but normally this would be a private group and bespoke itinerary so it's best to discuss the possibilities.
