Equipment and Gear Hire
A video explaining what to bring and how to hire gear
Do we need to have our own gear?
We have a full hire gear selection of snorkelling and scuba diving equipment. Please see this page for more information.
What gear is required for snorkelling?
Gear required for snorkelling:
- Boot or fin socks
Wetsuits are far better than drysuits for snorkelling with much less drag and air pockets to worry about. We would advise at least a 7mm wetsuit to ensure you are warm enough. However it is also about the fit of the suit; a good fitting 5mm is much better than a loose fitting 7mm. Surf style wetsuits (e.g. 5/4mm) are managable for shorter trips. However the best equipment is a 7mm open-cell free-diving wetsuit with attached hood.
Can we bring a 'swimming style' wetsuit?
We do have a number of swimming clients, bringing their own swimming style wetsuits. Generally these are a little too thin as they are designed for intensive fast swimming rather than snorkelling where you are moving slowly observing marine life.
We do recommend you hire a thicker suit as we want you to be warm, as the warmer you are the longer you stay in for and the more you enjoy the experience. If you are especially acclimiotisted to cold water then it would be up to you about your own gear.
What else do we need for the trip?
Here is a list for you to check off:
- Cameras are a must as we have so many experiences to capture!
- Binoculars for spotting wildlife (we have a couple of pairs for sharing around).
- Warm clothes -waterproof jacket, fleece, hat & gloves.
- Sunglasses & sunscreen.
- Snorkelling gear - hire from us here.
- Lunch and water.
- Seasickness tablets if required (take before you get on the boat).
We provide hot drinks and home baking once you get out of the water.
Where can we hire gear from?
We have a range of hire gear available. See the hire gear page for more information. We are able to kit you out head to toe if need be but we’ll need to understand your size, height etc. to make sure we have equipment to fit you. As you can appreciate we can have all different sizes of folk from petite ladies to 6’6 rugby players!
We bring the equipment requested on the trip with us so unfortunately there isn't an opportunity to try it on beforehand. Please give us a call if you are unsure.
